Chicago Blackhawks legend Bobby Hull passed away Monday morning

Bobby Hull passed away Monday morning, Jan. 30, 2023, at the age of 84, according to the NHL Alumni Association. No immediate details have been released regarding the cause of Hull’s death.

The NHL legend spent 17 seasons in professional hockey with the Chicago Blackhawks, Winnipeg and Hartford. He accumulated almost 1,200 points and played almost 1,100 games in his lengthy career.

The Ontario native was no newcomer to earning hardware, as he collected over 15 awards and titles in his career. He was a Stanley Cup champion in 1961 with the Blackhawks, and also earned three Art Ross Trophies, two Hart Memorial Trophies, one Lady Byng Memorial trophy and more.

Due to his legendary and controversial career, Hull had a famous rule named after him.

“The Bobby Hull rule” was named after him because of his controversial curving of the stick in the NHL. Hull and his legendary teammate Stan Mikita were the drivers of the stick-curving craze that exploited the NHL. The league was fearful for goaltenders who didn’t wear masks because of the potential danger for the mask less goalies. The rule went onto limit players to one-half inch of curve for sticks.

Bobby and his son Brett Hull, a fellow NHL legend, form the highest-scoring father-son duo in NHL history with 1,351 goals in the courses of their careers.

Overall, Bobby Hull had an outstanding career in professional hockey and will be missed by fans and players all around the world. He was truly an NHL legend and will go down as one of the greatest of all time.
